2011: SB's YeoWDam't

I was wondering how to explain something this insane and eventually settled for doing it in interview format. My alter ego often helps me out with character interviews and getting out of plot holes, so I thought she was the best one for the job.

Although I did think about turning it over to one of my characters... Anyway, read on.

NaNoFiMo day 30: completed!

Well, yesterday I completed my NaNoFiMo novel, which was the still unnamed vampire story. It came in at just over 31ooo for the month, making the overall story just a tiny bit longer than The Frozen Tear.

Final total:  75558

I was going to take a couple of days off and then do a review of what I've learnt from NaNoWriMo, but then I discovered that I've already written 7 k in two days on a new story and I'm being stalked by a main character from the story I was working on before November...

NaNoWriMo day 23: unexpected success and a dash of optimism

Well, after my worst weekend so far (253 words) I put in my first 5k day on Monday and managed 5589 words to bring my total to 56526. I also wrote my first really painful scene, killing off one of my favourite characters.

At the time of writing I am just 587 words away from the official NaNoWriMo goal of 50000. I've also completed and submitted Alfred the Advertising Assignment. I should be jumping up and down for joy.

I think I'm suffering from the week 2 blues a little late, so it was nice to find Randy Ingermanson's e-zine in my inbox this morning. Since his footnote says it's okay, I'm sharing what he said about NaNoWriMo:

NaNoWriMo day 10: a dodgy approximation of a pep talk

This is my own personal version of a 'pep talk'. I am using the term very loosely. In the general run of things I am about as motivational as a poster saying 'procrastination gives you something to look forward to later'.

Anyway, here's my 'pep':

Write it anyway. There is no idea too good to write.

Seriously. Any idea you've ever had is too good to not write.

Side note: Imagine what would happen if the main characters of every unfinished story haunted their authors until the story was finished. I'm thinking about writing something along those lines in a project or two's time (or maybe next November). Next I'm going to write about zombies, though. Even if I have to make the main character be a zombie, I will get zombies into a story.

For everyone else participating in NaNoWriMo this year, welcome to day 3! For those who haven't joined the fun... well, you're missing out and your life might be a little less insane than it could have been this month.

This is my first time nano-ing, wrimo-ing or whatever it's supposed to be called. So far it's been by turns hard, surprising, hard again, suspenseful, surprising again and then a dash of frustration. Er... in no particular order.
