NaNoFiMo: National Novel Finishing Month

National Novel Finishing Month (NaNoFiMo) is exactly what it says on the tin: a month-long "finish the novel" challenge. It's been running for a number of years, but various events led to the challenge moving to NaNoFiMo.proboards.com in 2011 and me ending up as assistant Admin. This year I'm once again more or less running the site, so I figure a blog post telling everyone how awesome the challenge is might be in order.

Who is NaNoFiMo for?

Everyone!

Okay, not quite everyone. It's for all those people who started a novel and want to finish it by the end of 2012. Maybe it's your NaNo-novel, a novel started during one of NaNoWriMo's many spinoff events or even something you started on your own. All you need is an unfinished novel draft and the desire to finish it by the end of the year.

Because I get lonely without other writers to talk to, I'm flexible about these requirements. If you want to write in the company of a bunch of crazy enthusiasts, NaNoFiMo will welcome you.

What is the challenge?

NaNoFiMo began with the aim of adding 30k to a NaNo-novel, which would leave your awesome writerly self with an 80k completed first draft. This option is still available, but at last check everyone who'd committed to a goal had chosen the "Finish the novel or bust!" option, which allows you to choose your own goal. For example, I'm aiming to write 60k and put an end to my 150k second draft of The Frozen Tear.

When does all this happen?

NaNoFiMo starts on December 1st and runs until December 31st.

Where do I go to sign up?

  1. I am really loving the theme/design of your weblog.

Do you ever run into any browser compatibility issues?

A couple of my blog visitors have complained about my website
not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox.

Do you have any advice to help fix this issue?
