The NaNoWriMo Lunatic

Today is poetry day in Siana-land. I wrote this some time in 2011 and this seems like a good time to share it. Welcome to 'The NaNoWriMo Lunatic':

She seemed no different from the rest
Just a boring normal girl
Her mother always did her best
And she was daddy's pride and joy

She learned to walk and talk on time
But never was much like the rest
And frequently she would retreat
Into her NaNoWriMo hell

As a girl she was considered somewhat odd
Kept to herself most of the time
She would daydream her way in and out of her own world
But in every other way she was fine

She's a NaNoWriMo lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within her world
In her NaNoWriMo hell

Enthusiastic hypergraphic
Crazy on occasion
When will she break out
Of her NaNoWriMo hell

She struggled to get though her day
She was helplessly behind
She poured herself onto the page
Writing for hours at a time

In real life she was considered somewhat odd
Kept to herself most of the time
She would daydream in and out of novel-land
But in every other way she was fine

She's a NaNoWriMo lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within her world
In her NaNoWriMo hell

She's a hypergraphic maniac
With casual delusions
When will she be let out
Of her NaNoWriMo hell?

This is my tribute to two things: NaNoWriMo and Dream Theater. The NaNoWriMo part is obvious, but unless you're a massive Dream Theater fan you probably won't know that this poem is set to the music of 'solitary shell', part six of 'six degrees of inner turbulence' from the album of the same name.

For comparison purposes and to make more people listen to Dream Theater:

  1. ...I didn't immediately pick up on the Dream Theater reference, but I finished reading and thought, 'This needs to be a metal song...oh.' :-)
